Research Project

There is a need to develop new and effective treatments to combat the devastating neurodegenerative disorder Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Our research proposes to examine a safer vaccine / therapy method which uses immune cells called dendritic cells (DC) which induces effective immune responses against the beta amyloid, when used to stimulate the DCs. This method will be used in mouse model, which demonstrates some of the symptoms and disease characteristics of human AD. It is hoped that ultimately positive results in this animal model, in terms of lessening or preventing AD-like symptoms will be able to be evaluated for effectiveness in human clinical trials.
